The impact of agglomeration processes on internal migration in the Republic of Belarus

The article presents an assessment of the impact of agglomeration processes on population migration in the regions of the Republic of Belarus. For this purpose, urban agglomerations are considered and their typology of importance in the development of settlement systems is given. All urban agglomerations are divided into agglomerations of national and regional importance. It is shown that most urban agglomerations of national importance have a direct impact on migration processes, and population migrations are the main factors in the growth of their population in conditions of depopulation, which has engulfed most regions of the country. At the same time, urban agglomerations of national importance include most cities and districts of Belarus with a migration increase in population. It is noted that among all urban agglomerations in the country, the Minsk urban agglomeration is developing most actively. Migration is the main source of its population growth. At the same time, more than half of the migration growth of the population of all Belarusian cities and districts is concentrated here. However, the active expansion of the Minsk urban agglomeration is a threat to Belarus' transition to monocentric development.
