Energy citizenship: features of the concept and forms of implementation

The transition to carbon-neutral energy puts on the agenda not only technological issues, but also requires better understanding of the role of socio-economic, socio-cultural and socio-political factors influencing it. The review article presentes elements of the emerging concept of energy citizenship, its definitions and some approaches to conceptualizing its types. Deeper understanding of the phenomenon of energy citizenship will help better understand the interrelationship between people’s values, actions and relationships in the context of sustainable energy, as well as to develop effective ways to involve citizens in energy saving practices and to distribute socio-economic benefits of the energy transition.
