Dangerous consumption: late Soviet person and theatre
The Brezhnev era (1964–1982), for all its scarcity, was marked by a high level of consumption and its wide distribution. Theatre was a prestigious consumption and a source of social capital multiplication high in demand by Soviet people. The essay demonstrates the diversity of consumer demands, shows the peculiarities of attitudes towards consumption of Soviet leaders, and highlights the role of performances of the Taganka Theatre and others in the sociopolitical education of citizens.
