The urban transport model in the Cittàslow concept
The concept of “slowing down” urban life, which grew out of the initially narrow-minded Italian social movement for “slow food”, includes the desire to reduce the intensity and speed of transport, without giving up mobility. Various aspects of the design of “slow cities” have recently aroused interest in Russia as a tool for sustainable development, but the authors assess the prospects for their implementation rather pessimistically, largely based on the transport factor. This is due to the relevance of this review, which aims to determine the place and role of transport in the development of the city according to the Slow City model and actually those characteristics of the transport situation that foreign researchers identify as important conditions for the successful implementation of this model.
