The transformation of consumption of the Russian population: How significant are the changes?

The economic transformation in Russia since 1992 have affected various aspects of society. One of the statistically significant was the change in the structure of consumption of the country's population. These changes were caused not only by the formation of a fundamentally new consumer market for the country with the absence of the phenomenon of scarcity, but also by advances in technology (digitalization), as well as the expansion of producers and the supply of new goods and services. The shifts in the consumption of the country's population during the first two decades of the 21 st century, as confirmed by trade statistics and household budget surveys, are generally assessed positively. The identification and assessment of possible changes in consumer behavior of households under the sanctions policy are relevant in the coming period.

Keywords: consumption structure; households; trade statistics; household budget surveys; food products; non-food products; paid services.
